Join us for our newest IOActive hack:: event!
We would like to welcome all of our security friends in the Cheltenham, UK region, to join us for the launch of our newest hack:: event: HACK::CHELTENHAM. We will be hosting our friends at our recently opened hardware lab in Cheltenham.
Ivan Reedman, IOActive Director of Secure Engineering, will be presenting: ‘Vintage Vulernabilities :: Modern Risks.’
Ivan’s presentation will focus on RF and the usage of software defined radios (SDR). The problem: vintage vulnerabilities that by all accounts were well understood and should have stayed in the past, are still appearing in many new products.
Ivan explores one particular vulnerability class discovered in some recently deployed RF equipment and demonstrates how trivial it is for even a low-skilled attacker with virtually no knowledge of the target, to exploit the vulnerability. The attacker can build on the initial attack to advance the exploit using common signal processing tools.
IOActive HACK::CHELTENHAM is an event for the cybersecurity and hacking community to discuss all things cybersecurity over food and refreshments at our facilities.
We hope you can join us for the launch of the launch of hack::chelteham – we’ll see you at the new lab!
Doug Ferguson, Founder and CEO of Pharos Security, will be presenting: ‘How to Pitch a Pentest / Red Team Engagement that Influences Executives’
Does ethical hacking have tunnel vision and even an image problem?
After decades of ethical attack projects, why does the industry still see the same basic security problems, year after year? It could be that the customer is the problem, or of their perception on ethical hacking projects – but is that the whole story or just a comfortable justification? How can you position ethical attack projects to communicate greater value and drive meaningful influence from SecOps to the C-suite?
HACK::SOHO is a monthly event hosted at our London, UK office for the cybersecurity and hacking community to discuss all things security over food and refreshments.
Ilja van Sprundel, IOActive Sr. Director of Operating Systems Security, will be presenting: ‘Minor game hacking with Frida’ at H::S this month.
Ilja was a bit frustrated with the steam game: ‘Super Animal Royale’ – and being presented with a challenge, it would go without saying, he went right into ‘fixing’ the problem. Frida, Greasemonkey for native apps, represented the right tool to address the fixable problem, so take the journey with Ilja as he shares his exploration of hacking the game with Frida.
HACK::SOHO is a monthly event hosted at our London, UK office for the cybersecurity and hacking community to gather over ideas and refreshments.
Josep Pi Rodriguez, Principal Security Consultant, will present: ‘Contactless Overflow//Code execution over NFC in Points of Sale and Cash Points’ at the next hack::soho this month. Josep will explore the vulnerabilities and provide a demo of how readers can be compromised – using a special IOActive-created Android app, and just tapping an Android phone to the reader.
Further exploring the consequences such as financial impact in the reader’s users/owners and card data once the firmware is compromised. The compromised host’s firmware, connected to the reader via USB, can further be manipulated, chaining stack buffer overflow vulnerabilities in the SDK provided by the vendor that is running in the host machine.
Josep’s research was recently featured in Wired magazine, and we’re excited to host you for this exciting presentation.

An Evening with IOActive returns! We will be hosting our next event at a new downtown location: The Hotel Theodore. Please join us for engaging security discussions, breathtaking views of the city, and tasty beverages and hors d’oeuvres.
‘AI & Security’
AI is at the forefront of discussion for virtually any industry and something every business should be aware of in terms of overall impact. Daniel Miessler will discuss the transformative potential of AI in information security, highlighting its ability to provide context and ask the right questions. He believes AI will revolutionize vulnerability management, web application security, and red teaming, forcing security software companies to adapt or risk obsolescence.
This event is open to the security community, please share with your friends and colleagues.
Please RSVP as space is limited.
For our security friends in Seattle, join us for the next Women, Wisdom & Wine!
Our next event will be held at The Hotel Theodore, Thursday, July 13 starting at 6pm.
