Buenos Aires, AR—August 21, 2012. IOActive, a leading provider of application security, compliance, and smart grid security services, today announced that Ruben Santamarta, one of their security researchers, will present ICS Security: Time to React, as the closing keynote address at the European SCADA Summit 2012. The European SCADA Summit brings program managers, control systems engineers, IT security professionals, and critical infrastructure protection specialists together in order to learn and discuss the principal cyber security risks to control systems and the most effective defenses. The Security Summit is an action-oriented conference designed so that every attendee leaves with new tools and techniques they can put to work immediately when they return to their office.
Industrial Control Systems are no longer living the quiet existence that they used to. Everyday the technological pillars that support modern society are being scrutinized by different actors with different purposes—researchers looking for vulnerabilities and nation-states trying to collect information or disrupt foreign facilities, to name a few. SCADA systems, PLCs, smart meters, and other industrial devices are the new crown jewels that everyone is eager to protect…and attack. This presentation discusses new scenarios this sector is facing by analyzing real-world cases where vulnerabilities, backdoors, cyberwar, and espionage come into play.
