JOSHUA J. PENNELL
President & CEO

Joshua J. Pennell founded IOActive in 1998 and, as its President and CEO, has led the company's 160% annual growth rate. Mr. Pennell has focused on identifying emerging markets in need of advanced information security services and establishing strategic partnerships with companies such as Hewlett-Packard and Booz Allen Hamilton. Mr. Pennell has guided the company to become a thought leader in the industry, resulting in IOActive being selected as one of three professional security services firms in the world to perform the Microsoft Vista Final Code Review. Equally notable, Mr. Pennell's leadership of IOActive led to securing the nation's first online binding election in 2000 and bringing Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple, onto IOActive's Advisory Board. Along with Directors Ted Ipsen, Ward Spangenberg, and Darek Milewski, Mr. Pennell shares responsibility for IOActive's day-to-day business development, operations, establishment of strategic initiatives, and overall vision for the company.

Mr. Pennell's extensive computer security experience consists of more than a decade of achievement as an impassioned computer security strategist and thought leader. He has designed cryptographic controls and hardened network appliances, and in 1996, Mr. Pennell was one of four co-founders of a local Bellevue company whose technology was later purchased by Airborne Express. He and his team won DEFCON's Capture the Flag event for a consecutive three years, followed by another three years of running the game's operation. In his spare time, Mr. Pennell serves on the Advisory Board for GraniteEdge Networks, Source Boston, and SiteScout; and finds creative ways for IOActive to help the community by donating service and expertise in assisting local non-profits with advancing their information security programs. Mr. Pennell has been quoted by Time Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, The Wharton School of Business, ZDNet, The Seattle Times, and The Washington Post, providing expert commentary on information security issues. In his spare time Mr. Pennell enjoys racing with Step Down cycling, back-country ski touring, spending time with friends and family, and sailing.
